An Autumn of Noticing

Three month-long creative experiences in paying attention, collecting what matters, and making an artful record of the ordinary life you're living.

September · October · November 2026

What if you didn't let autumn simply happen around you this year?
What if you noticed yourself living it?

The changing light through the kitchen window. The first cool morning. A leaf picked up on a walk. Something someone said that you don't want to forget. The book on your bedside table. The cup you reach for every morning. A scrap of paper tucked into your pocket. The ordinary rituals and tiny details that quietly become the story of a season—and a life.

An Autumn of Noticing is a series of three month-long Everyday Noticing Experiences designed to help you slow down, pay attention, follow your curiosity, and make something from what you find.

Beginning in September, we'll spend the autumn moving through three simple practices:
NOTICE → COLLECT → ARCHIVE

We'll begin by becoming more awake to the life that is already here.
Then we'll gather the things that ask to be kept.
And finally, we'll turn some of what we've gathered into an artful archive of our ordinary days.

You can join me for one month, two months, or the entire autumn.

Each experience is complete in itself.

And if you decide to spend all three months with me, something rather lovely will happen along the way.
We'll create an Autumn Triptych—three small works of art that together become a record of a season you actually noticed yourself living.

Not sure yet? Keep reading. I'll show you exactly what we'll be doing together—and you can explore each individual Experience before you choose.

This isn’t quite a course.

And it isn't quite a workshop.

There are no modules to complete, lessons to check off, or assignments waiting impatiently for you when life gets busy.

Instead, think of each Everyday Noticing Experience as: a month of creative correspondence and companionship.

Every Tuesday, a new issue will arrive in your inbox—a beautiful collection of original writing, ordinary moments, things to notice, creative invitations, and inspiration gathered around our month's theme.

Between those weekly letters, you'll hear from me From the Studio as I practice alongside you: little audio or video notes, photographs, pages from my journals, works in progress, things I'm reading, things I'm noticing, and whatever else emerges along the way.

You'll be invited to write.
Notice.
Photograph.
Collect.
Make lists.
Walk.
Wonder.
Maybe glue some things to paper.
Maybe make some art.
And sometimes simply look.

At the end of the month, we'll gather live on Zoom to reflect on what we've discovered and make a small mixed-media artwork together.

No grades.
No gold stars.
No catching up.
No getting behind.

Just an invitation to become a little more present to your own life.

Each month you’ll receive…

Four weekly issues

Every Tuesday, you'll receive a new installment created around that month's exploration.

Inside you'll find some combination of:

Original essays + reflections
Writing from me to carry our month's idea a little deeper.

Ordinary Moments
Stories, observations, photographs, and small pieces of everyday life.

Noticings
Things to look for, listen for, wonder about, remember, photograph, gather, or simply pay attention to.

Creative Invitations
Writing prompts, art-journal invitations, collage, photography, lists, collecting practices, walks, observations, and pauses.

Choose the ones that call to you. Leave the others.

From The Studio

Between our Tuesday issues, I'll invite you into my own practice.

You might receive an audio note over morning coffee. A short video from my studio. A photograph of what I'm making. A journal page. Something I've written in response to one of our prompts. A book I've stumbled upon. A collection beginning to take shape.

This is where the experience stays alive.

I'm not simply sending you a course I've already completed.
I'm doing it beside you.

A beautifully curated inspiration shelf

Throughout the month, I'll also share some of the things helping me think, notice, and make:
Poetry. Books. Essays. Artists. Photographers. Podcasts. Videos. Music. Quotations. Interviews. Films. Beautiful oddities.
Things worth following down rabbit holes.

And yes.
There will be a playlist.
Obviously.

A live creative gathering

Near the end of each month, we'll gather live on Zoom for a morning of reflection and making.
We'll talk a little about what we've noticed and discovered.

And then we'll make together.
Each month we'll create a small mixed-media piece on canvas or wood—an artful interpretation of what we've explored.

Can't attend live?
The Gathering will be recorded, and you'll have access to the replay.

You do not need to be an artist.

Really.

You don't need to know how to paint.
You don't need a beautiful art journal.
You don't need a studio.
You don't need to know what you're doing.

Perhaps you're already an artist, journaler, writer, photographer, or collector of interesting little things.

Wonderful.

But perhaps you simply love books and poetry. You take pictures of beautiful light. You pick up leaves. You save handwritten notes. You want to slow down a little. You find yourself longing to pay closer attention to the days that seem to be passing much too quickly.

You belong here, too.

The art-making is an invitation—not an entrance requirement.

All you really need is curiosity.
And a life to notice.

You already have both.

The monthly experience.

  • SEPTEMBER · NOTICE

    BE READY

A month of paying attention to the life that is already here.

What becomes visible when you begin to pay attention?

Be Readyis an invitation to spend September becoming a little more available to your own life.

We'll notice the familiar things we've stopped seeing.

We'll pay attention to light and language, repetition and ritual, sounds and colors, ordinary objects and fleeting moments.

We'll follow what catches our attention.

We'll practice curiosity without needing to know where it leads.

And we'll begin gathering evidence of the September we are actually living.

One of our first pieces of inspiration will be William Stafford's beautiful poem You Reading This, Be Ready—a reminder to be awake to the possibility held inside an ordinary moment.

But the poem is only where we begin.

Over four weeks, we'll follow many threads as we explore what it means to be present, receptive, curious, and ready to notice what is already here.

    OUR FOUR-WEEK MOVEMENT
    Week One · Be Here
Begin where you are. Notice what is already present.

    Week Two · Pay Attention
Look again at the familiar, ordinary, and easily overlooked.

    Week Three · Stay Curious
Follow what catches your attention without needing to know why.

    Week Four · Keep Something
Consider what became meaningful simply because you noticed it.

    THE BE READY GATHERING

Saturday, September 26 · 9:00 AM Pacific · Live on Zoom

We'll gather some of the evidence we've collected during September and create a small mixed-media piece inspired by one question:
What became visible when I began to pay attention?

You'll leave with a small artwork—and perhaps a slightly different way of seeing the life waiting for you outside the studio door.

  • OCTOBER · COLLECT

    THE ART OF COLLECTING

A month of gathering the things that ask to be kept.

Once we begin paying attention, something rather wonderful happens.

    We start finding things.

    A feather.
    A photograph.
A sentence copied from a book.
A ticket tucked into a pocket.
The particular green of October moss.
A recipe written in someone's handwriting.
A collection of circles appearing in photographs.
    A phrase you keep hearing.
A color that suddenly seems to be everywhere.

The Art of Collecting is an invitation to follow those threads.

Not because the things we gather are necessarily valuable.
But because our attention has made them meaningful.

Throughout October, we'll explore collecting as a creative practice—a way of following curiosity, recognizing patterns, preserving memory, and learning something about ourselves through the things we choose to keep.

We'll make collections both tangible and intangible.
    We'll collect objects and words.
    Colors and photographs.
    Questions and fragments.
    Perhaps even moments.

We'll explore what happens when we stop asking whether something is important enough to keep and instead ask:
Why does this keep asking for my attention?

And we'll see where the answer takes us.

    THE OCTOBER GATHERING
At month's end, we'll bring pieces of our collections together and create our second small mixed-media artwork around the question:
    What asked to be kept?

Your October piece will stand beautifully on its own—or become the second panel in your Autumn Triptych.

  • NOVEMBER · ARCHIVE

    THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ORDINARY DAYS

A month of archiving the extraordinarily ordinary life you're living.

What if an ordinary life were worthy of an archive?

    Not someday.
    Not after something remarkable happens.

    Now.

    The meals.
    The errands.
    The people.
    The weather.
    The books on the nightstand.
The objects on the kitchen counter.
    The view from the window.
    The funny thing someone said.
The things we're wearing and reading and cooking and worrying about and laughing at.

These tiny details can feel insignificant while we're living them.

And then one day, they're precisely the things we wish we could remember.

The Encyclopedia of Ordinary Daysis an invitation to become the archivist of your own everyday life.

Throughout November, we'll explore simple, creative ways to document what is here.

    Lists.
    Labels.
    Descriptions.
    Photographs.
    Fragments.
    Stories.
    Dates.
    Objects.
    Journal pages.
    Small pieces of evidence.

Not because every moment needs to be preserved.

But because an ordinary life is made almost entirely from things that once seemed too ordinary to record.

We'll practice deciding what deserves a little ink.

    A photograph.
    A sentence.
    A place in the archive.

    THE NOVEMBER GATHERING
At month's end, we'll create our third small mixed-media artwork inspired by the question:
    What is worth remembering?

Your finished piece will become an artful archive of the ordinary November you actually lived.

And for those who have spent the whole autumn with me, it will complete something beautiful.

A place to gather what you notice.

You don't need a special journal for any of these Experiences. A notebook you already love, an art journal, loose pages—or even the notes app on your phone—will do beautifully.

But if you'd like a dedicated place to gather the observations, lists, fragments, photographs, words, and other bits of evidence you collect along the way, you'll have the option to add The Collector's Notebook when you register.

I created the Collector’s Notebook specifically for this kind of practice: a place to catch the small things before they disappear.

Each one is hand-finished in my studio and mailed separately. It may not arrive before your Experience begins—and that's perfectly fine.

Start noticing now. Your Collector’s Notebook can catch up with you.

A few things you might be wondering.

A Note about Registration

These are live, seasonal Experiences rather than evergreen courses.

Be Ready registration closes September 7.
The Art of Collecting registration closes October 5.
The Encyclopedia of Ordinary Days registration closes November 2.

The complete Autumn of Noticing series is available only through September 7, before our autumn journey begins.

After each Experience begins, registration closes and that Experience returns to the studio.

There is a life happening here
and now.

Not the life you'll live when things calm down.

Not the life you'll document someday.
Not the beautiful version you might make from it later.

This one.

The coffee cup beside you.
The August light slipping toward September.
The half-read book.
The grocery list.
The conversation you don't yet know you'll remember.
The leaf that will be on the sidewalk next Tuesday.
The ordinary Tuesday itself.

There are things here worth seeing.
Things worth gathering.
Things worth remembering.

And for one autumn, I'd love to practice noticing them with you.

Choose your autumn.

Let's notice the season while we're still inside it.
